Description Edexcel GCSE Drama Study Guide de Andy Pullen:

Alongside practical exercises, the guide contains suggestions for further reading and individual research, supporting you in both the theoretical and practical demands of the course. A chapter on understanding the theatre offers suggestions on how to use this knowledge in your own practical work. Chapters on Unit 1 and Unit 2 offer plenty of ideas for practical exploration and give invaluable advice on how to structure your written work, including advice on what to look out for when watching and analysing a live performance and writing an evaluation. The requirements for Unit 3 are examined in detail, with practical ideas for performance, design and improving your technical skills, plus ideas for devising your own work. The role of the designer is also examined through an online downloadable resource pack with focus on lighting, costume, sound, mask and make up, and set and prop design. Diagrams and images complement the text, making the information more accessible and helping you understand how to use it practically in your own work. A glossary and a subject knowledge audit are also included, giving you everything you need to work towards a better grade and become an independent theatre practitioner in your own right. Kelly McManus graduated from Dartington College of Arts with a degree in Theatre Arts. She then studied at Middlesex University and GITIS Academy in Moscow, where she gained her masters degree in theatre directing. She has combined her knowledge and experience as a director with her passion for education and teaching. She has been a head of drama in a number of schools across the south of England as well as being an advanced skills teacher. She works extensively training teachers and as an advisor for Reading University PGCE drama course. She is currently a deputy leader of expressive arts and associate director of Initial Teacher Training, studying for an EdD (Doctorate in Education) at Bath University and continues to work as a freelance director. Andrew Pullen studied drama at The University of Kent in Canterbury and trained to be a teacher with Margaret Higgins at Bispham Arts College in Blackpool. He has been head of drama and performing arts at a number of schools and colleges across the south of England, and continues to work as a freelance director. Andrew was co-artistic director of the Thorndike Exchange, a youth and community theatre company, working from the Thorndike Theatre in Leatherhead before establishing Theatre Exchange as an independent theatre company in its own right. With Theatre Exchange, Andrew developed many theatre experiences for a whole range of educational environments from primary school students to the field of disability arts. Andrew has worked as an associate drama consultant for 4S, working with Surrey LEA to develop gifted and talented provision for Year 7-11 drama students and has recently curated work for the Surrey Youth Theatre network.
